At the ministerial meeting, the Vice-Minister spoke on behalf of the Baltic states—Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania—stressing that Russia's aggression against Ukraine remains a test a challenge not only to European but also global peace and security.
"Russia's war against Ukraine remains a test of our values and international law. Aggression cannot defeat justice," Plepytė said.
The Vice-Minister thanked the Gulf countries for their humanitarian and mediation efforts, especially on the exchange of prisoners of war and the return of illegally deported Ukrainian children. She also stressed the need to further strengthen support for Ukraine – humanitarian, financial, military, and energy – until Russia was forced to negotiate a just and lasting peace.
“Our common goal is to prevent aggression and blackmail from becoming an acceptable tool of international policy. Ukraine defends not only its freedom but also the world’s faith in justice,” she said.
During the visit to Kuwait, Plepytė also met with Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait. They discussed possibilities for strengthening cooperation between Lithuania and Kuwait, including joint actions in support of Ukraine, as well as new partnerships in the areas of economy and digital innovation. Both sides expressed their readiness to further develop dialogue and practical cooperation.
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is an intergovernmental regional organisation comprising six Gulf countries: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. The EU-GCC ministerial meeting is an important platform for regular political dialogue and cooperation between the two regions on security, energy, trade, technology, and climate change.
