On 17 September, the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to the United Arab Emirates, Ramūnas Davidonis, presented his Letters of Credence to the Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Dr. Francesco La Camera. Ambassador Davidonis thus became Lithuania’s first Permanent Representative to this organization.
During the meeting, the Ambassador outlined Lithuania’s strategic energy policy goals – to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 while ensuring the highest standards of energy security. He also highlighted Lithuania’s commitments to expand the use of renewable resources, foster energy innovations, and contribute actively and constructively to the work of IRENA.
The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), established in 2009 and headquartered in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, serves as an advisory body supporting countries in shaping renewable energy policies. Lithuania joined IRENA on 29 June 2009 as one of its founding members. The Agency assists member states in developing regulatory frameworks, strengthening capacities for renewable energy deployment, and sharing research, best practices, and technological advancements.
