Ambassador Davidonis presents his letters of credence to the President of Iraq
On 15 May, the Ambassador of Lithuania Ramūnas Davidonis presented his letters of credence to the President of Iraq, H. E. Dr Abdul Latif Rashid.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Davidonis welcomed the growing bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Iraq. "We will continue to expand our political and economic cooperation with Iraq, one of the most influential countries in the region, and in particular we will strengthen our joint efforts to combat against illegal migration," the Ambassador said.
On 14 May, Ambassador Davidonis presented copies of the letters of credence to the Foreign Minister of Iraq Fuad Hussein. Ambassador invited the Minister to pay an official visit to Lithuania. During the meeting, bilateral political and economic cooperation, joint efforts between Lithuania and Iraq to prevent illegal migration were discussed.
Ambassador Davidonis is the first Lithuanian Ambassador to Iraq. On 2 January 1992, Iraq recognised the restoration of independent state of Lithuania. Diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Iraq were established on 24 January 2006.
